Men always want to take advantage of me: Tamara Ecclestone

Tamara Ecclestone, the heiress, admits she has “not had much luck with men” in the past as they always want to take advantage of her

Recently married to her “perfect man” and with a new baby, heiress Tamara Ecclestone says she is currently very happy.

But the 30 year-old daughter of Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone admitted she has “not had much luck with men” in the past, saying they always wanted to take advantage of her.

“I like to think I don’t regret any of my past relationships,” she said in an interview. “But if I am 100 per cent honest then yes, I do. I’ve always had my blinkers on ... I’m not stupid but love does do funny things to you.”

Miss Ecclestone married Jay Rutland, 31, a former city trader, last year. She gave birth to their daughter, Sophia in March.

However before meeting Mr Rutland, Miss Ecclestone had a string of unsuccessful relationships. She was engaged to Derek Rose, 34, who was later jailed for four years for trying to blackmail her out of £200,000, while another former partner, Omar Khyami, 40, cheated on her and a video tape of it was sent to her father who was forced to show her.

“I’ve not had much luck with men. They’ve always wanted to take advantage of me,” she said.

“I guess the problem is I’ve always wanted to help the men in my life. My mother was always saying I needed to find somebody who was my equal and not somebody I wanted to fix.

“She was right and I never listened. My love life has just been expensive, painful and hard - with very little happiness. It has also been incredibly undignified with my family being forced to see certain things like a sex video. I guess everyone makes mistakes and for me it was part of growing up.”

Miss Ecclestone and her sister Petra, 25, are heiresses to Mr Ecclestone’s estimated £2.5billion fortune. He left school at age 16 and worked his way up through the motorbike industry before he reached the top of the racing game.

In the interview, with the Dail Mail Weekend magazine, Miss Ecclestone said she did not understand why other famous families chose not to leave all their wealth to their children, describing it as “strange”. It comes after Sting, the musician, said earlier this year that he would not be passing on his £180m fortune in full to his children saying “I certainly don’t want to leave them trust funds that are albatrosses around their necks. They have to work”.

Miss Ecclestone said: “Everything I do is for my family and the future.”

“What’s the point otherwise? Why wouldn’t you want to do that and leave them it? As long as you bring them up right and raise them to know the value of money, then why wouldn’t you? If you raise them in a way where you can trust them and respect them then it should go to them. My dad has always said everything he’s done, and everything he went without as a child, has been for us. He wanted us to have an easier life than he did.”
